Flash of the Titan

First, yes. I did take my knitting with me, which was nice because we had a forty minute wait for the tour. Yesterday, as part of my summer staycation with the kids, we went to the Titan missile museum. After posting a pic on Facebook, I found out just how unnervingly close to home a bunch of these suckers were back in the early 80s, when we all knew how long we had until we were dead once the buttons started being pushed. However, only one of...

Rocketmen

Lately we’ve gotten ourselves on a rocketing kick.  Yes, it’s hot. Yes, it’s been humid. Yes, I have sons. It’s also super pretty when the clouds are up and the rockets are out. This is Lambert Park. For those of you who’ve visited Tucson proper, this view of the Santa Catalina mountains may be a bit befuddling. We’re north of Tucson, now, just past the border of Oro Valley. The top pic is taken facing nearly...

Improvements!

I’ve made a discovery. It’s dry in Arizona. Outrageous, I know, to claim something like that. But I was getting really sick of the gluten free bread’s refusal to rise much. A few weeks ago, before the latest onslaught, we were in San Diego. Thing 1, looking contemplative below with his grandpa photographer, had determined that he wanted to go fishing. Now I like fishing, but I know next to nothing about it. So we got an inexpensive pole (which I was fairly certain wouldn’t be strong enough), a few weights, we read a (useless?) website or two, procured some frozen squid (mmmmm) the night before we headed out,...

Heart Attacks

Posted by on Jul 4, 2010 in Family, Love, Travel |

Part of our trip to San Diego was to visit the USS Midway, an aircraft city, I mean carrier. Um. It’s big. The Things loved it—partly because they got to pilot immovable objects. However, on the movable object side of things, you may notice Thing 2 in the above picture walking away from Grandpa Photog, Daddy, and Thing 1. That was a theme for the weekend. Here, let me give you a heart attack. See Thing 2 at the 4th of July Padres...

Arizona Sky Progress

From the front of the house looking north, 1:20pm. Then from the back of the house facing southwest at 1:25 pm. Then through the trees on the boys’ fort facing south southeast @1:28pm. Then I checked out the fort fort a sec, structurally, and turned around. Facing north (again) at 1:35pm… and north northwest. It’s the contrast of the deep blue, the bright white, and the dark grey that always gets me. Sure HOPE it rains....
