I’ve been darning lately.
It’s not very glamorous, but it’s pretty gratifying.
Whenever I make socks for someone, I tell them that the socks come with a lifetime Darning Guarantee. (This means you, Penny.) So far no one’s believed me. Not until a few weeks ago.
I was over at Mom’s and she handed me three pairs of socks.
I practically skipped home. I actually really like darning. It gives me a chance to take a look at the sock, where it’s wearing, why it’s wearing down there. It’s just as meditative as knitting, and I have a really funky darning egg.
It’s a bed post knob. Bigger than an egg, less breakable than a lightbulb.
I love it.
And here’s a look at a little bit of the darn for you. I used a very funky, VERY solid yarn to darn with. Hoping it wont wear down as quickly. I think the original was Cherry Tree Hill–and it didn’t wear out quickly, now that I think about it. I knit these in ’06.
