I’ve been knitting up some carzy for my kids which I hope to be able to share with you soon (I have to wait for approval) but in the meantime, I collected a few nifty cast-ons I wish I’d had to start Jane’s Ubiquitous Shawl with! I think it would have helped.

I used Porpoise’s 4-stitch I-Cord trick for Jane’s Ubiquitous and it worked great– the I-cord helped stabilize the beginning to make it slightly less fiddly. Also, you can keep the stitches on two needles till you have 24 or so before dividing them onto 4 needles. That helped loads, too.
Dang–forget how to html-link in comments, but she describes it in post #100 at the WWMDK Jane’s Ubiquitous Shawl group here:

I haven’t picked out the i-cord yet, so I can’t comment as to how fiddly that will be… I’ll let you know:-)
I have learned a different crochet grip from Korean crocheters. I’ll try to take pictures later today and post them under my projects on Ravelry (don’t know where else to post them). I just have to figure out a way to set up the camera while my two hands are busy.
