For many months now I’ve been taking pictures of stuff–life, my cooking, interesting-weird-things–always thinking, “ooh! I can post it tonight” but night is my only knitting time and… there went that idea.
Instead, I think I’d like to start something different. I’d like to post a gallery of these shots on Sunday. Just pictures. If something sparks your fancy or you just want to know more, let me know in the comments and I’ll work up a whole post on how/what/where/wherefore just for you. (more…)

When it looks like this outside…
The storm that’s been sitting on us: a portrait.
Inside should look bright and cheery.
Hmmmm… what to do? What to do…?
I KNOW!

So, I wrote this book.
Then I tried to figure out how to help spread the word (because that’s the biggest fear, right? That we’re all just typing into the echo chamber of our own mind).
And then my husband says, “Socks.”
And then he gets this devilish gleam in his eye and says slowly, “Sock. Puppet. THEATER!”

There are some books and movies I’ve mentioned on the podcast lately, but I wanted to be sure to mention them here, too.
Friends are doing great things and I thought you might want to take a peek.
My friend Dave Garret is a force of nature. I met him while watching and working on my husband’s plays lo’ these many moons ago. Well, now Dave turned his eye to film making. Even more fun for me, the movie stars my friend from theater school, Jennifer Reagan, hands down one of the top two most talented actors I’ve ever had the pleasure to know.
If you like family dramas, then you’ll love Ten Stories Tall (also starring Ally Sheedy and Tovah Feldshuh). (more…)

Lotsa socks!
That’s what I’ve been working on, of late. Lotsa socks to go with my new novel.

__________
A sky-diving instructor was asked, “How many successful jumps must a student make before he or she can become certified?”
He answered, “All of them!”
Sky diving, however, is the exception. Is your life built on a series of successes? Do you usually attempt something new and immediately succeed, then succeed again and again? Or more likely, do you find that it is the other way around?

It’s taken me awhile to figure me out.
I gather that I’m not alone in that.
I spent most of my life so far… probably half what I’ll get out of this life, actually, which is pretty sobering… pretty happily meandering along, letting life prod me in new directions. In fact, the only time I can remember deciding, “yes, THIS is what I want,” was when I got married. So I know that having a clear vision of something you want can be quite good (for 17 years and counting!).

First, the hope.
Elena Kagan moves up to big-game hunting with Antonin Scalia.
I tend to think the lack of civility in DC that we see on TV DOES have something to do with a decided lack of shmoozing across the aisles. There are lots of great stories and anecdotes of old-school friendships that crossed political lines in bygone years, but not so much of late.
So.
Happy that the Justices get along. That makes me happy.

I’m a writer, podcaster, designer, speaker, teacher, blogger, crafter, and editrix of What Would Madame Defarge Knit?—Creations Inspired by Classic Characters.
I write here about knitting, crafts, cooking (now gluten-free), and the myriad things in which I’m interested. My main podcast is CraftLit and that’s now spawned a sister show Just the Books—all the lit, none of the craft.
You can find out more about my podcasts, this blog and my patterns, or you can sign up for the OED Word of the Day (mid-right sidebar)—all just by clicking! How cool is that!?
