A high point of his ninth birthday was meeting Ehren Ziegler of <a href=\"http:\/\/chopbard.com\">ChopBard podcast<\/a> during the Birthday Weekend Trip To NYC Blowout.<\/p>\n<p>But last week he woke up, looked out the window at the fresh (surprise!) snow and said, &#8220;It makes me feel all Shakespeare-y.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well what else is a former English teacher to do?<\/p>\n<p>I showed him the format for a Shakespearean sonnet, demonstrated iambic pentameter for him with a few lines from plays he knew, then let him at it.<\/p>\n<p>The result is this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snow to Spring<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Silent, the white specks fall upon our earth.<br \/>\nThe trees are covered with their clumps of snow.<br \/>\nAs the world wakes unto its frozen birth,<br \/>\nIt is a joyful scene, but nothing grows.<\/p>\n<p>The snow melts through the wet and soggy ground.<br \/>\nThe joy disperses as snow goes away.<br \/>\nBut yet, a tiny memory is found<br \/>\nWhich flies around the skies and saves the day.<\/p>\n<p>As plants pop up from wet and saddened dirt,<br \/>\nThey bloom and blossom &#8217;til they shine like sun.<br \/>\nAnd tho&#8217; the journey comes with pain and hurt,<br \/>\nWith Spring we find the battle lost and won.<\/p>\n<p>I say this: from the snow that came today<br \/>\nIt brings a sorrow price that we must pay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He only asked for help on two lines (bonus points if you can guess which two).<\/p>\n<div class=\"visually_embed\" data-category=\"Education\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1J7Efok\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 50%;\" src=\"http:\/\/thumbnails-visually.netdna-ssl.com\/william-shakespeare_5029159247682_w1500.jpg\" alt=\"William Shakespeare\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/visual.ly\/william-shakespeare\/?utm_source=visually_embed\">William Shakespeare infographic<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.riokaelani.com?utm_source=visually_embed\" target=\"_blank\">KaeLani<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My younger son has found himself enamored of Shakespeare (Midsummer is a fave, followed closely by Branaugh&#8217;s Henry V).
