Life as Crazy Quilt

Patched together here are links to essays I've produced and recorded, articles I've written, knitting patterns I've designed —see sidebar left— and the new bits as they happen.

Some FGAs (Frequently Given Answers):

  • Post-grad life began in Hollywood (I'm listed by my maiden name "Hutchinson" in the credits of Aladdin) but wasn't long-lived. I moved into teaching "to do some good" first in Southern California, then later in New York City. After putting in my ten years, I pulled out to write curriculum full time. Writing has become my primary vocation, though I still teach (rhetoric, comp, tech and business writing) now at the University level.

  • I've maintained my Mama O Knits Too Much blog since the winter of 2004 as a way to keep track of the crafty things I was up to. I had no idea it would all lead to...
  • ...CraftLit: A Podcast for Crafters Who Love Books (think "book on tape with benefits").

  • The podcast audience has been growing steadily over the past four years and of late it's become clear that many listeners are also teachers. As such, I'm launching a line of e-books to help beleaguered English teachers as well as plays and monologues for the drama teachers who will stab their own thigh if they have to direct a middle school cast in Our Town again.

  • Have an idea for a book you'd like to hear on CraftLit or want to record one for us? Think it would be fun to get one of your patterns up as an iPhone/iTouch app feature? Please email and let me know!
  • I continue to write for gainful employment (such as it is) in the world of curriculum and textbook development and have recently joined StudioGraphia as one of the core manager/editors. I can be contacted independently for projects or you can visit the StudioGraphia site for more information. I've also started tutoring online, helping middle, high school and college studetns to write more effectively for class. I also host webinars for adults who wish to learn to write better.
  • • Coming Soon: CraftLit Spa Weekends are in the works! Spend a relaxing weekend at a cozy retreat having books read to you by a famous books-on-tape legend while getting a mani-pedi, eating, crafting, and drinking. The whole family can come for the weekend, but you'll probably want to let them go off on their own while you loaf with literature. Click for details.
